"Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing."
— Theodore Roosevelt
Promises kept:
I have worked diligently to connect, engage, and build trust with all education partners, especially families, in the drive to consistently improve student outcomes and learning opportunities.
I have listened to and addressed the concerns of students, parents, educators, and occasionally grandparents throughout my service on the board.
I have promoted school safety initiatives, specifically I co-sponsored a $175,000,000 per year for 5 years School Safety Physical Facilities Capital Needs Policy and Business Plan.
I have respected, promoted, and advocated for the profession of teaching. I proposed and advocated for the teacher directed 32 professional hours.
I have championed our home grown Utah Core Standards as the basis of quality instruction.
I have promoted the WPU (Weighted Pupil Unit) as the fundamental pillar of education funding in Utah, which has always been number one on the board priority list submitted to the governor.
I have supported school district strategic plans through local control of funding and curriculum.
I strive to maintain humility and an attitude of service.
I have studied the issues thoroughly and balanced the opinions of many. I actively seek out differing opinions.
I have been polite and respectful of those who have opinions that vary from my own and seek for common ground.
I have respected the taxpayers' dollars in ensuring compliance with Utah code and board rules.
After I was elected, I retired from teaching at the end of the 2020-2021 school year so that I could fully meet the time commitment associated with serving on the State School Board.
