MEET THE CANDIDATE
UTAH ROOTS.
Brent was born and raised in rural Sanpete County. His parents were actively involved in the community of Spring City, Utah. His mother helped to start Heritage Days and wrote grants to get funding to restore the city's beautiful turn of the century stone school house. His father started a little league program, served on the city council, and was the chief of the volunteer fire department. Brent learned how to work hard at home, in his school work, and for farmers during the summer months. His family had a small 40 acre farm. In addition to the farm, his parents both worked for the school district. Brent and his two brothers all became educators.
EDUCATION
Brent graduated from Snow College and Utah State University with a bachelors in Secondary Education with a Social Studies Composite. He was hired to teach Utah History, U.S. History, Geography and Government at South Ogden Jr. High in 1991. He coached, football, basketball, and track while there. Brent earned his Masters degree in Education and in 2001 he moved over to Bonneville High where he taught World History, U.S. History, Economics, Personal Financial Literacy, and Government. He also coached football, basketball, track, and cross country.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
In 2011, Brent was elected to serve as a council member for South Ogden City. In this capacity he has focused on economic development and financial sustainability. He served as the liaison for South Ogden on the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the audit committee and economic development committee.
FAMILY
Brent and his wife have seven children and four grandchildren. Brent's wife is also an educator and they live in South Ogden. In his retirement, he hopes to continue to serve all children in Utah as a State School Board member. In his spare time you can often find Brent at a BYU football game, fishing with his brothers, traveling with his lovely wife-especially to see their cute grandkids in New Hampshire.
